How Will I Know If My Toddler Is Ready For Pre-School?

According to WIKIPEDIA, a toddler is defined as a child 12 to 36 months old. The toddler years are a time of great cognitive, emotional and social development. The word is derived from "to toddle", which means to walk unsteadily, like a child of this age.

At Think Preparatory School, our toddlers differ in their developmental milestones. Some demonstrates advanced development and some might need a little practice, and improvement. Although it is not the school's capacity to diagnose toddlers with special needs, we inform or make parents aware of red flags our SPED teachers observe especially after the kids' assessment. They might then consider having their child assessed by a Developmental Pediatrician or an Occupational Therapist may also assess the child.

PLAY is a very important factor in these toddlers and as long as they enjoy playing by themselves, with toys, or with other companion, they are ready for pre-school.

It is but normal for the child to have SEPARATION ANXIETY and this may happen the other way around for parents since it will be their first time to be separated from each other especially work-at-home and breastfeeding moms. The child may be ready but the parent might be anxious and sometimes, the child will reciprocate the feeling which becomes hard for the child to let go.

The first few days in school will always differ in every toddler we encounter. Some are very excited to meet new classmates, some are hesitant to enter a new and unfamiliar environment, and some will be literally crying for a few days. When they have gotten used to their routine and realized that they are looking forward to another adventure in school with their classmates, they will be the ones who will be excited and very eager to come to school without hesitation.

That is why, it is very important to research about your toddler joining pre-school and make sure that they are play-based since toddlers learn easier through play. Before they knew it, their playing with puzzles and singing along with phonics are preparing them for another step which is KINDERGARTEN.

Actually, all toddlers are ready for pre-school. They need that new environment and new activities to be able to learn new skills to cope with the advancing world. That is why Think Preparatory School is play-based because we believe, the more they enjoy, the more they learn, and would love to come to #ourhappyplace!
